they quarreled, as sisters will
and Rose Red stalked off to the west
swearing never to speak to Snow White again
she carried her anger a tiresome way
along the far horizon
dropping blood from a wounded heart
till languid blue evening
chilled the scarlet splotches
all the shades between violet and midnight
Rose Red to her dismay
found herself lost and weeping
under the stars
finding home only
when Snow White waved forgiveness
across a milky dawn.
