Back when we were growing up, there was a country music show in the Gudger community, not too far from Knobite Corner. Called the Gudger Jubilee, live every Saturday night, it featured local bands, and occasionally ones from as far away as Knoxville. I first heard this song, written by Canadian singer/songwriter Ian Tyson, performed by one of the Knoxville bands.
It wasn’t until years later that I learned that “Four Strong Winds” was a #3 hit for Bobby Bare in 1965.
Still one of my favorite Bare performances. There is something simultaneously melancholy and hopeful in the way he handles that last line: I’ll look for you if I’m ever back this way. . .
