A Little Something for Mom

December 19, 2011 by Faire

We haven’t hung anything on our front door at Christmas in donkey’s years.

This year, though, I got ambitious after finding a Christmas stocking consisting of crocheted granny squares in the November 29, 2011 issue of Family Circle magazine.

This is the end result. I used a different granny pattern than what’s in the magazine, substituting a Neverending Granny for their square. The colors are Red Heart Ranch Red, Soft White and Medium Thyme, with a bit of a Victorian Christmas Gold metallic thrown in for bling.

Mom’s reaction, when she saw the finished product, is one I’ll treasure: without hesitation, she said, “That’s my Christmas present.”

    That’s wonderful!! And what a lovely reaction from your Mom. Don’t you love the Never-ending Granny Square?

      Hi LJ–thanks! I’ve made her two lap robes this fall–one in pink variegated & one in Mistletoe variegated–but nothing purely decorative like this in a long while–she fell in love with it from the moment she saw the first squares.

      I do indeed love the Never-ending Granny–fewer holes & much sturdier than a trad Granny–

      I’ve already completed a second stocking for my sister and am working on one for my SIL–

      and making smaller stockings to put small gifts in for the nieces and nephew–although those look less like stockings than ankle boots!

      PS My niece did the photo–she amazes me with her photographs!

    Wow. The colors are so beautiful. Excellently done. As always, best regards to your mom, who once again appears to be a woman after my own heart. I would also treasure such a thoughtful gift. And of course, my compliments to the photographer for such a clear image.

    p.s. Love the wood door, too. Merry and bright. <3

      I may have mentioned before, Bubba chose these colors–when I first found the pattern I couldn’t find the bright traditional Christmas colors–and he put these together–we agreed they looked vintage, Victorian in a way–

      This does work exceptionally well with the wood door, doesn’t it? Very merry & bright.

      Will pass regards on to Mom :) Hope you’re having a good day– <3

      I think the same thing–which is why I’m making smaller versions to put Brand, Amanda & Savannah’s gifts in–Hope things are better today–I’m a bit better. I started my Christmas baking yesterday–chocolate oatmeal cookies–first batch was a disaster, but I’m gonna try again today! {{{{{<3}}}}}
