Let There Be Peace on Earth

November 4, 2010 by Faire

My blogging and FB friend Queen Mimi of Bloggingham reminds me that today is the annual Blog Blast for Peace.

Somewhere in a whirlwind of business and puter glitches and clutter I did not find a peace globe to post; however, I did remember this song, a beloved one from my high school choir days–here sung by Vince Gill and his daughter Jenny.

Strange that, in my HS days and even now, we thought of this as a Christmas song (Gill recorded it on his 1993 Christmas album of the same title as the song); it’s a song for all seasons.

Let there be peace on earth,
And let it begin with me. . .

For me this will always be the quintessential Thanksgiving song. It’s what we sang in church. When I went to church.

But peace is for everyday. Let there be peace.

Don’t remember ever singing this in church, now that I think of it. As you know, my quintessential Thanksgiving song is “We Gather Together” and I’m seriously wondering if I should update that post (and the Black Friday one I wrote last year over on FW) and reprise them.

The Black Friday one, for certain, I think, for no better reason than that gorgeous John Atkinson Grimshaw painting–

OMG…I have’t seen or heard this one before (whyevernot, I wonder!) – I was close to tears…the song and the images are so beautiful together! I must share!

Peace to you and yours, Lewis x

I’m not sure where this song even comes from, Annelisa–I hadn’t ever heard it until we sang it in HS choir in the late 1970s. I have very fond memories of it for that reason, and was thrilled to pieces when Gill did it on the 1993 album.

I agree, the images and song go beautifully together.

Thanks for stopping by! And indeed, pass the song along!~~Faire

The pure tenor of Vince Gill truly makes this song even more special.

There is something about his voice that can make even the most mundane lyrics special–and when he gets a song like this that is far from mundane–gives a body shivers! Thanks Jamie– :)

Thank you for blogging peace with us in November and for being my FB friend as well.
I love this song. The harmonies are solid and peaceful.
